The aim of the modle is to increase students' understanding of the technical aspects of vehicles, especially in relation to safety, environmental concerns, legislation and vehicle performance.
A systems approach will enable students to understand how the modern vehicle and vehicle components industries interact.
(i) Definition and understanding of vehicle systems approach.
(ii) Overview of theory behind vehicle safety, aerodynamics, performance, noise and ergonomics.
(iii) Testing methods associated with vehicle development in the above technical areas.
(iv) Vehicle manufacturing processes and their relationship to the systems approach.
(v) Internal combustion engine cycles, combustion processes and exhaust gas production.
(vi) Automotive fuels and lubricants.
Delivery of the model will predominantly be by lecture and tutorial, with a significant element of actual vehicle testing and engine testing as practicals. The use of computer-aided testing methods will enable assessment to include laboratory reporting, as well as an end examination.

|3.||Be able to understand the interaction of technical aspects of vehicle design.||Discuss the likely effects of changing one parameter against others.|
|4.||Be able to calculate engine performance from known factors, and to analyse the impact of fuels on environmental pollution.||Conduct engine and vehicle tests to study these effects.|
