This module covers the theory and practice of integrated supply chain management (SCM). It focuses on the use of information, and information systems to manage the chain. It demonstrates how the activities in the chain can be managed through the use of information, and illustrates the benefits of moving towards fully integrated systems.

A variety of teaching and learning methods including; lectures, seminars and presentation, practical work, e-learning (Web-CT), workshops, tutorials, study groups, videos, independent study, directed reading are employed to develop the knowledge and skills of a diverse group of learners.
The Learning outcomes, will be assessed through:
Assignment One: Group case study report (use of software and integration issues) (50%)
Assignment Two: Individual assignment (materials control, including supply chain dynamics) (50%)

|1.||Be able to describe typical supply chain management systems.||Describe typical proprietary systems and their uses.|
|2.||Demonstrate working knowledge of a number of supply chain systems||Use an SCM system them to solve typical supply chain real world problems.|
|3.||Be able to describe and analyse integration issues in supply chain management systems||Describe a strategy for ensuring integration across supply chain systems.|
|4.||To have a working knowledge of contemporary materials control methodologies, and be able to choose those appropriate to given situations.||Evaluate different materials control approaches against a case study scenario, and describe how the chosen solution would work.|
|5.||To be able to suggest responses to the effects of different demand patterns in the supply chain and describe how these effect the behaviour of the chain through supply chain dynamics||Predict the effect on the chain of alterations in demand pattern.|
