This module will introduce managers to the role and importance of financial information and the principles of accounting in the workplace. It will also explore the management of budgets and the control of resources
The module aims to help the student to:
Develop an understanding of role of finance in management and decision making
Develop a range of financial techniques used in planning and controlling resources.
Formulate appropriate financial solutions to problems concerning the planning and control of resources
Introduction to Financial statements cash flow, trading, profit and loss accounts.
Elements of cost, and their behaviour patterns
Decision making techniques.
Budgetary control and performance measures - Construction of budgets
This module is part of the DIPLOMA OF CPD course and is available also as part of the University Continuing Professional Development provision.
Delivery of the module will be via a traditional learning approach that uses lectures and workshop/tutorials.
Students are expected to use classroom materials and other resources to provide the underpinning knowledge and understanding for the module. This will be supported by tutor led workshops and discussions.
Learning outcomes will be assessed through one work-related assignment that will focus on the analysis and evaluation of the way in which techniques and concepts from this module can be used or are being used to improve the management of financial resources.
