This module is designed to extend the studentís physical and expressive powers through Jazz dance. It involves the development of technique and the understanding of its uses and functions in a commercial and community context, and the ability to utilise jazz dance to enrich or enhance a performance.
Technical and performance skills including; the essential features of jazz, strength, flexibility, stretches, extensions, contractions, weight placement, stance, rhythm, co-ordination, turns, focus, expression, dynamics, jazz style eg Fosse. Application of technique including, warm-ups, floor and centre work, travelling, choreography taught and self-devised. Demonstration of understanding including; reproduction of set routines and choreography of a jazz combination for use in a performance.
LEARNING &TEACHING STRATEGY, METHODS & TIME ALLOCATIONS
This module will be tutor led in the first instance to demonstrate and acquire jazz technique. Learning will be supported by the watching and analysing videos of various styles of jazz dance. In the later stages of module delivery the student will begin to work in groups to choreograph routines for inclusion in the prescribed performance project and tutor support and advice will be available.

Most of the evidence for this module will be achieved through practical demonstration. Evidence will be generated by the studentís level of contribution to practical jazz dance classes and to a specific class when choreography takes place. The students will be assessed on their ability to contribute jazz dance routines into a specific performance project which will be assessed via work based learning. A portfolio/logbook will record studentís individual progress and self evaluation.
