This unit deals with the preparation and practice of performing dance within a community context. It involves the awareness and planning for and interacting with different client groups, taking account of their needs and requirements. It includes liaison with local communities and initiating and realisation of a dance project with a client group.
1. Experience and identify a range of community dance performance opportunities.
2. Develop the practice and skills required for community dance performances.
3. Work with a targeted client group on a community dance performance.
Dance Workshops, working with community dance workers. Types and styles of dance and workshop application, the various functions of dance within a community context including; social, fitness, personal development, therapy. Use of dance to enhance and enrich a performance via styles of dance and use of music. Evaluation of self and audience response. Planning of performances including; choreography, concept and delivery, client needs and personal development.
Learning and teaching strategy, methods and time allocations
This module is designed for independent work based learning. At the start of the module the student will be given information about appropriate styles of performance within a community context via a series of practical workshops and video. The student will then work within a group and liase with the clients to select the most appropriate dance style/s for the project. The student will choreograph individually and or within a group dance pieces for inclusion in a performance project. The student will rehearse the dance pieces and perform them via work based learning. Tutorial support will ensure appropriate level of work and understanding.

Assessment Methods and Rationale:
This module will be assessed by means of Process: Research of material, negotiation with client group and rehearsal of the dance performance and a working log that records all stages of the project. Product: The performance of the dance pieces. Portfolio: Evaluation of the process and product and response of the client group.
