Building upon professional experience by deepening and extending prior and new practice knowledge as Specialist Community Practitioners.
Through independent investigation, evaluating and utilising research, and applying research skills to the interpretation of evidence in order to draw valid conclusions to maximise clinical effectiveness.

Empirical evidence and psychological, epidemiological, sociological and social policy perspectives informing analyses of health and processes of development influencing individuals, families and community in order to develop competence in an holistic approach to care within the specialist pathway (PBL);
The practical and analytic skills to access and utilise such knowledge in an appropriate manner as graduates;
A range of occupational modes of practice which may be adopted within community health care nursing practice; and
Methods and resources, including ICT skills, by which students can be more or less self sufficient in linking their personal and professional aspirations to their programme of study, promoting continuing professional development and life long learning;
(Nurse prescribing will draw upon learning in the specialist modules, Practice Development module and supplementary sessions in the periods designated for seminars and tutorials).

Professional role/job specification in terms of Specialist Clinical Practice, Care and Programme Management, Clinical Practice Leadership and Clinical Practice Development.
Study skills and support, presentation skills, access to diagnostic and remedial provision, the personal tutor system, use of learning resources, and ICT for study and health care practice.

200 hours practice-based learning
Within the practice setting: Compilation, maintenance and review of Portfolio utilising reflective practice, modular learning outcomes, Practice Assessment Schedule and learning contracts.
Compilation of Community Health Profile
Identification of research questions in practice; investigation of research and development infrastructure: seeking out examples of evidence based practice and potential/limitations/obstacles to development.
Specific skill development competencies as determined by individual profiling of student learning needs and local priorities to be linked to college based PBL seminar programme
200 hours college-based learning
28 x 2.5 hours classroom activities
Lectures for taught input; exercises and workshops including small group work and feedback; tutorials and feedback from exercises. Dissertation supervision.
ICT sessions and learning support/study skills.
Additional problem based-learning in relation to integration of social, behavioural and clinical sciences with specialist practice: a series of PBL sessions and seminars on practice based topics including nurse prescribing as appropriate: selection of topics for individual students to be based on individual needs negotiated by the student and mentor and or service manager.
130 hours private and self directed study
This will include utilisation of learning support services including library and web based resources; completion of exercises for work book and preparation of dissertation.
The assessment will take the form of two pieces of course work.

Prepare proposals which are clearly justified, for appropriate approaches and methods for the investigation of a range of researchable questions/problems/ hypotheses in the context of practice. The dissertation will demonstrates application of methodological criteria to the evaluation of research literature.
|4.||Critically analyse ethical and legal implications of research.||Display critical engagement with ethical and legal implications of research based literature and the professional practice to which it may relate.|
|5.||Gain access to and critically analyse literature pertaining to empirical evidence and theories relevant to professional practice in accordance with learning needs within their fields of specialist practice. |6.||Critically appraise various forms of data collection, analysis, presentation and interpretation within research reports.

Draw useful conclusions from your extended independent study which informs enquiry and evidence based practice, including evaluation of factors facilitating and or inhibiting evidence based practice including consideration of local arrangements for R & D, benchmarking and dissemination of evidence based practice within the frameworks for Clinical Governance.
|7.||Demonstrate competence in your own practice and a high level of capacity in critically reflecting on your own performance in relation to health care. If eligible you will demonstrate competence to practise as a nurse prescriber.
Display achievement of ‘competence’ as defined by the Community Practice Assessment Schedule; reflective practice will be demonstrated to Mentor and in formative reflections and learning contracts within your Portfolio of learning.
Prescribe safely, effectively and cost-effectively from the Nurse Prescriber’s Formulary;
Discuss the potential side-effects of, and the reaction to, the items in the Nurse Prescriber’s Formulary;
Compare and contrast the team and individual roles of doctors, dentists and pharmacists in relation to prescribing;
Explain the requirements of the legislation relevant to the practice of Nurse Prescribing;
Demonstrate accountability and professional responsibility in relation to Nurse Prescribing.
