This module builds upon professional experience and aims to equip students with the principles that underpin the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for Specialist Community Public Health Nursing.
The module recognises that the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse has a fundamental role as leader. It therefore draws on a range of contemporary issues that will enable students to lead effectively, by equipping them with the principles underpinning professional public health nursing for the 21st century.
An additional feature of this module is that it also incorporates a workshop based learning approach that aims to equip students with specific evidence based knowledge and skills required for effective practice.

200 Hours of Practice Based Learning
This includes; Shadowing Practice Teachers and other Specialist Community Public Health Nurses who will be role modelling leadership within Specialist Community Public Health Nursing, working with other practitioners to gain experience, educational visits to other organisations, attending in-service training to increase knowledge, skills and competence and reflection upon practice on the achievement of learning outcomes through practice based experience. Within the practice setting the professional portfolio will be compiled, maintained and reviewed utilising reflective practice, modular learning outcomes, the Practice Assessment Schedule and learning contracts within the framework of personal development planning.
200 Hours of University Based Learning, Of Which:
70 Hours Classroom Sessions. This includes lectures, contributions from external specialists, case study analyses & problem solving. Class room sessions will utilise experiences to explore the knowledge, skills and attitudes underpinning practice. Learning contracts and reflection will facilitate the linkage of college and practice based learning.
The remainder 140 hours to be used and shared flexibly between:
Workshop Based Learning approaches and Self Directed Study which includes preparation for assigned work and library time
Assessment will take the form of 4 pieces of course work
