Improving the health and wellbeing of communities is recognised as an integral aspect of public health and health promotion policy. Current threats to public health have their greatest impact in terms of the health experiences of, and subsequent outcomes for the most disadvantaged. Consequently, collaborative approaches with partnerships between the community, professionals and agencies are important in order to promote the health and wellbeing of local people and as such, this module may be of value to students who are gaining, or have experience in a wide range of settings and organisations. With such considerations in mind this module will aim to assist students in extending the body of knowledge in:
•Tackling health inequalities through the forging of effective community partnerships and strategies
•Building and sustaining health promoting networks within and between communities, professionals and organisations
•Promoting new ways of working to improve health based on the principles of public health and community development
Students will be expected to utilise self initiated and self directed approaches from a range of sources that lie beyond the boundaries of the immediate subject, their practice discipline and organisational context. Student work will be characterised by explicit justifications based upon logical argument and, where appropriate, sound evidence underpinning public health and health promotion.

Effecting relevant policy strategies in relation to collaborative working for health improvement including; public health, health promotion, neighbourhood renewal and sustainable communities.
Current threats to public health and their impact on local communities, populations and groups.
The nature of networks and their significance for the promotion of health and wellbeing.
Health needs assessment, multisectoral working, planning, strategy and policy development at a local level.
Health Equity Audit. Health Impact Assessment.
Evaluation of community based health initiatives.

The 200 hours notional time given to this module will be allocated as follows:
Classroom work: 30 hours
Private study to consolidate classroom work: 50 hours

|2.||Have an understanding of theoretical frameworks and models underpinning collaborative working with communities, professionals and agencies||Critically evaluate a small selection of theoretical frameworks or models from a wide range of sources that underpin collaborative working with communities, professionals and agencies|
|3.||Be able to Identify and evaluate contemporary policies associated with collaborative working across communities, professionals and agencies for effecting health improvement||Critically analyse and evaluate policy in the context of collaborative working for effecting health improvement|
|4.||Be able to identify mechanisms for understanding the nature of health threats, health impacts and health needs for disadvantaged communities||Identify and critically evaluate methodologies that may be utilised for determining health threats, health impacts or subsequent health needs|
|5.||Utilise intrapersonal and interpersonal skills to engage in intersectoral collaborative activities to involve a range of agencies, occupations and lay groups/individuals to mobilise resources for health improvement||
Demonstrate critical awareness of the complexities of intersectoral working.
Offer new insights as to how complexities may be addressed, including a critical analysis of the range of intra and interpersonal skills required to engage in effective intersectoral, collaborative work
Demonstrate perspective transformation in relation to knowledge, practice and skills.
