This module aims to equip the student with an appreciation of the principles of health and fitness, human anatomy and physiology.
It encourages the student to explore a range of factors affecting fitness and the methods of assessing fitness.
It aims to equip the student with the confidence and practical skills to assess fitness and to prescribe relevant health and fitness measures in both a personal and a community context.
This module covers the practical skills that students will require when prescribing different types of exercise activity and will take into account in this context appropriate health and safety legislation.
It deals with nutrition and dietary requirements for health and fitness, prescreening, fitness tests and nutritional assessment.
It addresses health and fitness issues in personal and social contexts.
This module will be delivered through seminars and workshops with an emphasis on the latter in view of the practical nature of the module.
The delivery will include a site visit and a guest speaker.

|1.||Identify the parts of the body and how they work||Undertake a written examination identifying the parts of the body and how they work|
|2.||State the nutritional and dietary requirements for a balanced, healthy diet||Undertake a practical assessment in which you assess the nutritional needs of a client and make suggestions|
|3.||Demonstrate the ability to carry out basic fitness tests, interpret the results and prescribe a gym programme||Undertake a practical assessment in which a client is tested for their current levels of fitness and inducted into a gym programme|
|4.||Produce a six-week exercise programme and evaluate the progress made by clients||Produce a written assignment covering a personalised six-week exercise programme with evaluations|
