This module is designed to equip students on the International Foundation Programme with the ICT and numeracy skills to be successful in their following programme/s of study.
understand statistical terms and language
undertake calculations to solve problems
explain data using qualitative and quantitative terms
ICT- Employ a number of applications including:
Using the internet and intranet (including e-books and moodle)
This module will be primarily delivered via practical workshops with formative assessments being employed to evaluate learning.
It will be assessed by a project report in which students are required to employ statistics and demonstrate ICT skills (N.B. PowerPoint slides in handout form will form part of the assessment but an oral presentation will not be required)
The module will be taught for 3 hours/week for 12 weeks for the year long IFP and for 6 hours/week for 6 weeks for the one semester IFP.
Workshops = 30 hours
Tutorials = 6 hours
Background reading and study = 54 hours
Assignment completion = 60
