This module aims to:
Develop studentsí skills in the utilisation of digital video software packages
Provide students with an understanding of the technology and techniques of digital video manipulation and the integration of video into interactive media for information and promotional purposes.
Digital Video: preparation, scripting/storyboarding, staging, delivery formats, digital video capture, video transfer
Digital Video Creation: Video animation, Video layers, titling, Chroma keying/Blue screen, Video transitioning, Video Filtering, linear editing
Digital Video Manipulation: Sample editing, pixel level editing, sequence adjustment
Digital Video Distribution: Distribution mechanisms (CD/DVD/Streaming/Broadcast/Digital tape), suitability of mechanisms for audience, optimisation of media for delivery platform and audience
Formal lectures will introduce the students to each topic. For some topics tutorials will take place when appropriate after the lecture, at which students will be asked to apply their knowledge and understanding to a range of case studies.
The lecture topics will be reinforced by students undertaking formal and informal practical activities.
Students will be expected to do extensive directed reading and Internet based research on case studies of practical systems, technical details of software, hardware and commercial systems, and for general background knowledge.
