This module aims to:
Develop students’ skills in the use of digital image manipulation software.
Provide students with an understanding of the technology and techniques of digital image manipulation.
Develop students’ skills in the utilisation of digital video software packages
Provide students with an understanding of the technology and techniques of digital video manipulation
Digital Images: construction, characteristics, file formats.
Digital Image Creation: Scanning, digital still cameras, digital video cameras, analogue video capture.
Digital Image Manipulation: pixel editing, attribute adjustment, filtering, layering, merging.
Digital Video: preparation, scripting/storyboarding, staging, delivery formats, digital video capture, video transfer
Digital Video Creation: Video animation, Video layers, titling, Chroma keying/Blue screen, Video transitioning, Video Filtering, linear editing
Digital Video Manipulation: Sample editing, pixel level editing, sequence adjustment
Digital Video Distribution: Distribution mechanisms (CD/DVD/Streaming/Broadcast/Digital tape), suitability of mechanisms for audience, optimisation of media for delivery platform and audience
The learning outcomes will be assessed via two assignments. The assignments will be an integrative assignment in which several elements of the syllabus are assessed; an important feature of the assignments is that they will be contextually relevant to the design of either multimedia titles or web sites. Each assignment will assess both written and practical work.
