Welcome to the Auxetic Materials Network

Network Summary

This Auxetic Materials Network seeks to promote research into the synthesis, fabrication, testing, applications and modelling of auxetic materials, focus UK activities and align these activities within the International arena. The Network includes industrial collaborators who have access to the latest developments in auxetic material research and provide the academic members with an industrial perspective on the research, promoting applications-based projects. Exchange of personnel (especially research students) to share facilities and expertise is a key objective of this Network, as is the generation of research proposals to allow the Network to achieve self-sufficiency after the initial funding period. Auxetic materials are those that get fatter when you pull them and have been shown to offer huge potential through measured enhancements in properties such as indentation resistance, low velocity impact resistance, fracture toughness and energy absorption. An integrated series of research projects will allow these benefits (and other potential but as yet untested property enhancements) to be fully understood and exploited.
