Department of Computing and Electronic Technology

Research, Enterprise and Innovation

Non-teaching, scholarly activities in the Department of Computing and Electronic Technology (CET) are inspired by a spirit of enquiry, motivated by a need for enterprise and are driven by a desire to innovate. This usually reflects into excellence in teaching. Hence the name: Research, Enterprise and innovation (REI) in CET.

In this context, the REI activity in CET is organised into a number of themes that represent shared interests within the Department. The organization of themes, in research, enterprise or innovation is quite flexible, which mainly aims to reflect the current interests of staff who are active in one or more of these areas. A particularly useful role of the theme structure is to accommodate colleagues who may not be active but wish to develop activity 'by association' in the respective area. Hence, it is an actual representation of the profile of the department, and should change whenever such profile changes.

On the other hand, REI groups represent particularly active areas of research, enterprise and Innovation. The activities of these groups would normally result in a specific output e.g. publications, seminars, consultancy, projects etc. Such output would usually give the respective team a specific identity.

A third activity area relates to projects, which represent a more structured and planned activity. Such activity would usually be associated with a project team, a specific objective, a budget and a limited lifetime. Projects would normally be associated with one or more of the active groups.
