Teaching Interests

My main teaching interest is computer programming / software development using the object orientated languages C++ and Java. Within this domain I have particular interest in the use of data structures and algorithms in games software.

Research Interests

Software development by Peter Lager with Mark Johnson

Steps to Parnassus
This software enabled the user to mix images, sound and text in a surreal 3D environment they could move through. The students used the software to create a movie and culminated in a student production at Bolton Library Theatre which combined the 3D animation with live acting and music.

Bolton Chalk
This was a follow on from an initial project to enable the chalk and talk animations using an interactive whiteboard. Mark Johnson created the first incarnation of the software using Flash scripting. Although successful the limitations imposed by the scripting language meant the program was not extensible. It was decided we needed to create a new version in Java which I developed.
